Ordering a ring online without knowing your size is the #1 reason for exchanges — but finding your size doesn't require a trip to the jeweler. Here are three ways to do it at home, in under five minutes.
Method 1: The paper strip method
Cut a thin strip of paper about 1cm wide. Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you'll wear the ring on, and mark exactly where it overlaps. Measure that length in millimeters — that's your finger's circumference. Compare it against a standard ring size chart to convert to your size.
Method 2: The string method
No paper handy? A piece of string or dental floss works the same way — wrap, mark, measure, convert.
Method 3: Use a ring you already own
Measure the inside diameter of a ring that already fits well, then match it to a ring size chart using diameter instead of circumference.
A few tips
- Measure at the end of the day — fingers are slightly larger then due to normal daily swelling.
- If you're between two sizes, size up rather than down.
