How to Clean Gold-Plated Jewelry at Home (Without Ruining It)

Gold-plated jewelry needs a gentler touch than solid gold — here's how to keep it looking new without stripping the plating.

What to use

Warm water, a few drops of mild dish soap, and a soft microfiber or lint-free cloth. That's it.

How to clean it

  1. Mix the water and soap in a small bowl.
  2. Dip the cloth (not the jewelry directly) and gently wipe the piece — avoid soaking, which can loosen glued stones or accelerate plating wear.
  3. Dry immediately and thoroughly with a separate clean, dry cloth.

What to avoid

  • Ultrasonic cleaners — too harsh for plated pieces.
  • Baking soda, vinegar, or any abrasive/acidic DIY "hacks" — these strip plating fast.
  • Chlorine and prolonged water exposure — remove jewelry before swimming or showering.

Storage matters just as much as cleaning

Store pieces separately (tangling causes scratching) in a dry, sealed pouch or box away from direct sunlight and humidity.

Following these steps will meaningfully extend the life of any piece in our Non-Tarnish Everyday Gold collection — or anything else in your jewelry box.
